This picture is of by far my most favorite dive memory! Taken at the dive site Karang Bayanean in Raja Ampat, Nicolas Salvagno (my guide) and I enjoyed a private manta shoot with 6 oceanic mantas, thoroughly entertaining us for one hour. This photo is part of a sequence of shots of his stalking manta. Nico was hovering watching the activity over the reef while I was busy watching this manta creep up closer and closer behind him, surely wondering what this guy was up to, not moving for much of an hour. Finally, I had to signal Nico with my head 'look behind you!'. That is when I captured this shot. I could just imagine in my mind what they both thought at that moment... oh, hello there beautiful...
I have never seen anything like it before.
The Oceanic Manta Ray, this one with a wing span of about 15 feet. The classic border on the underside and the famous 'T' pattern on the top are their markings. They are huge and beautiful! We had Oceanics at 2 locations and Reef Mantas at another 2 sites. This dive at Karang Bayanean, Nico and I had 6 Oceanics to ourselves for one hour, our private Paparazzi Manta Shoot. It was a dive of a lifetime!
The Oceanic Manta Ray, this one with a wing span of about 12 feet. The classic border on the underside and the famous 'T' pattern on the top are their markings.
Blue Curacao cannot get much more picturesque than the beautiful French Angel just waiting for the diving photographer to take her picture. Taken at my favorite dive site in Curacao, Watamula.
